Monthly Round Up – July 2024

As we wrap up July 2024, I wanted to share a behind-the-scenes look at what’s been happening across the business, at home and on the tech front.

It’s been a month of big transitions, new beginnings, and family-first priorities, all while keeping one eye firmly on the future. Here’s what went down…

🚀 Welcoming Jade and Chloe to Team NDC

One of the biggest milestones this month was officially integrating Jade and Chloe into our team following the acquisition of Poolbridge Accountancy. They’ve hit the ground running and have already become invaluable members of the NDC family.

Jade has taken the lead on implementing a brand-new billing proposal tool to streamline our internal processes. Meanwhile, Chloe has been deep-diving into some new tax software solutions that could seriously enhance the way we serve clients.

They’re not just managing clients who’ve come over with the acquisition – they’re actively pushing forward on innovation and contributing to wider projects across the firm. Safe to say they’re already making their mark💥

❤️ Supporting my wife through surgery

On a more personal note, the end of July took an unexpected turn. My wife underwent major surgery, which meant I stepped away from the office for a few weeks to take on full-time carer duties.

From dog walks and meal prep to school holiday chaos and garden football matches, my working hours became anything but predictable. I was still working – just in bursts of 2 hours here, 3 hours there – often at odd times of day.

It was a tough but important time for our family and I’m grateful I had the flexibility to be there when it mattered most. It’s also a reminder that as entrepreneurs, we sometimes need to shift gears and that’s okay.

🏗️ New client win: major construction project

Despite taking our foot off the gas when it comes to new business this month (for obvious reasons), we’re excited to welcome a new client in the construction industry.

They’ve just landed a huge project involving the redevelopment of the old TJ Hughes building into student accommodation – a landmark piece of work locally. We’re thrilled to be supporting them as they navigate the financials on such a high-profile build.

🧠 Tech & advisory: planting the seeds for what’s next

Even during the more chaotic weeks of July, the tech wheels kept turning.

We’ve been exploring some exciting new tools to improve client onboarding, streamline internal workflows, and enhance the way we deliver advisory reporting. Nothing’s launched just yet but the groundwork is being laid for some seriously exciting upgrades in the months ahead.

July 2024 was one of those months that reminded me how interconnected our lives are – business, tech, family and everything in between. While there were fewer big meetings and flashy updates, there was still so much progress behind the scenes: welcoming new talent, supporting loved ones, and prepping for future growth.
