Monthly Round Up – October 2024

October 2024 has been a combination of work, rest and inspiration. From strategic retreats in Portugal to a family break in Turkey, it was a month full of balance and big ideas. Here’s what’s been happening behind the scenes in our business this past month 👇

🌞 Recharging in Turkey

After a busy Q3, I took some time out with the family and headed to Turkey for a week in the sun. Rest, reset and quality time were all on the agenda. It’s so important to take time to reflect and recharge, especially before heading into the final sprint of the year.

🇵🇹 Portugal Strategy Retreat with the Value Pricing Academy

Just before Turkey, I joined Mark Wickersham’s Value Pricing Academy retreat in Portugal. A full week of coaching, collaboration and high-level thinking with some brilliant accountants and bookkeepers from across the globe.

We dove deep into:

• Strategic pricing models

• Value-based conversations with clients

• The future of AI and how to incorporate into our day-to-day processes

🤝 Somerset Chamber of Commerce networking debut!

I stepped into something new this month – my first Somerset Chamber of Commerce networking event! I had the chance to meet some fantastic local business owners and reconnect with Dave Crew, the new MD (and someone I’ve known since his Weston College days).

We’re looking forward to becoming more involved with the Chamber in 2025 – it’s a great way to stay connected to the business community in Somerset.

🐉 Back at school for Priory Community School’s Dragon’s Den

I returned to my old secondary school, Priory Community School, to sit on the panel for their annual Dragon’s Den-style entrepreneurship challenge.

This year’s challenge: develop an ice cream brand!

The standout? A student-made vegan, gluten-free mint choc chip ice cream (which we all got to taste!). It was delicious and might’ve made his pitch that teeny bit better 🙂

And even better news, we’ve already confirmed two work experience placements for next summer as a result of the event. Giving back to the community like this is honestly one of the best parts of running a business.

🎬 Meeting with Barry Lewis – YouTube foodie legend 

This month also included an unexpected but brilliant meeting with Barry Lewis – yes, the YouTube food vlogger from Weston-super-Mare! Barry came over to chat about a possible passion project we might collaborate on. Early days, but if it comes off, it’s going to be a lot of fun.

🖥️ Website Updates in Progress

Behind the scenes, we’re also working on some much-needed updates to our website including new client case studies, refreshed service pages and more content that reflects what we’re all about: tech-forward, people-first accountancy.

📈 Welcoming 5 New Clients

We were delighted to welcome five new clients in October across a mix of industries. We’ll be sharing more about them in the coming weeks, but it’s great to see such diverse businesses choosing to work with us as we grow.

What’s Next?

As we head into November, the focus shifts to planning for 2025, delivering big results for clients in Q4 and wrapping up some internal projects.
